Ayah 1 Play Ayah
الٓرۚ alif-lam-raAlif Laam Raتِلۡكَ til'kaTheseءَايَٰتُ ayatu(are the) Versesٱلۡكِتَٰبِ al-kitabi(of) the Bookٱلۡمُبِينِ al-mubini[the] clear
TRANSLITERATION
alif-lam-ra til'ka ayatu al-kitabi al-mubini
English - Sahih International
Alif, Lam, Ra. These are the verses of the clear Book.
Ayah 2 Play Ayah
إِنَّآ innaIndeed, Weأَنزَلۡنَٰهُ anzalnahuWe have sent it downقُرۡءَٰنًا qur'anan(as) a Quran in Arabicعَرَبِيّٗا arabiyyan(as) a Quran in Arabicلَّعَلَّكُمۡ la'allakumso that you mayتَعۡقِلُونَ ta'qilunaunderstand
TRANSLITERATION
inna anzalnahu qur'anan arabiyyan la'allakum ta'qiluna
English - Sahih International
Indeed, We have sent it down as an Arabic Qur'an that you might understand.
Ayah 3 Play Ayah
نَحۡنُ nahnuWeنَقُصُّ naqussurelateعَلَيۡكَ alaykato youأَحۡسَنَ ahsanathe bestٱلۡقَصَصِ al-qasasiof the narrationsبِمَآ bimain whatأَوۡحَيۡنَآ awhaynaWe have revealedإِلَيۡكَ ilaykato youهَٰذَا hadha(of) thisٱلۡقُرۡءَانَ al-qur'anathe Quranوَإِن wa-inalthoughكُنتَ kuntayou wereمِن minbefore itقَبۡلِهِۦ qablihibefore itلَمِنَ laminasurely amongٱلۡغَٰفِلِينَ al-ghafilinathe unaware
TRANSLITERATION
nahnu naqussu alayka ahsana al-qasasi bima awhayna ilayka hadha al-qur'ana wa-in kunta min qablihi lamina al-ghafilina
English - Sahih International
We relate to you, [O Muhammad], the best of stories in what We have revealed to you of this Qur'an although you were, before it, among the unaware.
Ayah 4 Play Ayah
إِذۡ idhWhenقَالَ qalasaidيُوسُفُ yusufuYusufلِأَبِيهِ li-abihito his fatherيَـٰٓأَبَتِ yaabatiO my fatherإِنِّي inniIndeed, Iرَأَيۡتُ ra-aytuI sawأَحَدَ ahadaelevenعَشَرَ asharaelevenكَوۡكَبٗا kawkabanstar(s)وَٱلشَّمۡسَ wal-shamsaand the sunوَٱلۡقَمَرَ wal-qamaraand the moonرَأَيۡتُهُمۡ ra-aytuhumI saw themلِي lito meسَٰجِدِينَ sajidinaprostrating
TRANSLITERATION
idh qala yusufu li-abihi yaabati inni ra-aytu ahada ashara kawkaban wal-shamsa wal-qamara ra-aytuhum li sajidina
English - Sahih International
[Of these stories mention] when Joseph said to his father, "O my father, indeed I have seen [in a dream] eleven stars and the sun and the moon; I saw them prostrating to me."

Ayah 5 Play Ayah
قَالَ qalaHe saidيَٰبُنَيَّ yabunayyaO my son!لَا la(Do) notتَقۡصُصۡ taqsusrelateرُءۡيَاكَ ru'yakayour visionعَلَىٰٓ alatoإِخۡوَتِكَ ikh'watikayour brothersفَيَكِيدُواْ fayakidulest they planلَكَ lakaagainst youكَيۡدًاۖ kaydana plotإِنَّ innaIndeedٱلشَّيۡطَٰنَ al-shaytanathe Shaitaanلِلۡإِنسَٰنِ lil'insani(is) to manعَدُوّٞ aduwwunan enemyمُّبِينٞ mubinunopen
TRANSLITERATION
qala yabunayya la taqsus ru'yaka ala ikh'watika fayakidu laka kaydan inna al-shaytana lil'insani aduwwun mubinun
English - Sahih International
He said, "O my son, do not relate your vision to your brothers or they will contrive against you a plan. Indeed Satan, to man, is a manifest enemy.
Ayah 6 Play Ayah
وَكَذَٰلِكَ wakadhalikaAnd thusيَجۡتَبِيكَ yajtabikawill choose youرَبُّكَ rabbukayour Lordوَيُعَلِّمُكَ wayu'allimukaand will teach youمِن minofتَأۡوِيلِ tawili(the) interpretationٱلۡأَحَادِيثِ al-ahadithi(of) the narrativesوَيُتِمُّ wayutimmuand completeنِعۡمَتَهُۥ ni'matahuHis Favorعَلَيۡكَ alaykaon youوَعَلَىٰٓ wa'alaand onءَالِ ali(the) familyيَعۡقُوبَ ya'quba(of) Yaqubكَمَآ kamaasأَتَمَّهَا atammahaHe completed itعَلَىٰٓ alaonأَبَوَيۡكَ abawaykayour two forefathersمِن minbeforeقَبۡلُ qablubeforeإِبۡرَٰهِيمَ ib'rahimaIbrahimوَإِسۡحَٰقَۚ wa-is'haqaand Ishaqإِنَّ innaIndeedرَبَّكَ rabbakayour Lordعَلِيمٌ alimun(is) All-Knowerحَكِيمٞ hakimunAll-Wise
TRANSLITERATION
wakadhalika yajtabika rabbuka wayu'allimuka min tawili al-ahadithi wayutimmu ni'matahu alayka wa'ala ali ya'quba kama atammaha ala abawayka min qablu ib'rahima wa-is'haqa inna rabbaka alimun hakimun
English - Sahih International
And thus will your Lord choose you and teach you the interpretation of narratives and complete His favor upon you and upon the family of Jacob, as He completed it upon your fathers before, Abraham and Isaac. Indeed, your Lord is Knowing and Wise."
Ayah 7 Play Ayah
۞لَّقَدۡ laqadCertainlyكَانَ kanawereفِي fiinيُوسُفَ yusufaYusufوَإِخۡوَتِهِۦٓ wa-ikh'watihiand his brothersءَايَٰتٞ ayatunsignsلِّلسَّآئِلِينَ lilssailinafor those who ask
TRANSLITERATION
laqad kana fi yusufa wa-ikh'watihi ayatun lilssailina
English - Sahih International
Certainly were there in Joseph and his brothers signs for those who ask,
Ayah 8 Play Ayah
إِذۡ idhWhenقَالُواْ qaluthey saidلَيُوسُفُ layusufuSurely Yusufوَأَخُوهُ wa-akhuhuand his brotherأَحَبُّ ahabbu(are) more belovedإِلَىٰٓ ilatoأَبِينَا abinaour fatherمِنَّا minnathan weوَنَحۡنُ wanahnuwhile weعُصۡبَةٌ us'batun(are) a groupإِنَّ innaIndeedأَبَانَا abanaour fatherلَفِي lafi(is) surely inضَلَٰلٖ dalalinan errorمُّبِينٍ mubininclear
TRANSLITERATION
idh qalu layusufu wa-akhuhu ahabbu ila abina minna wanahnu us'batun inna abana lafi dalalin mubinin
English - Sahih International
When they said, "Joseph and his brother are more beloved to our father than we, while we are a clan. Indeed, our father is in clear error.
Ayah 9 Play Ayah
ٱقۡتُلُواْ uq'tuluKillيُوسُفَ yusufaYusufأَوِ awiorٱطۡرَحُوهُ it'rahuhucast himأَرۡضٗا ardan(to) a landيَخۡلُ yakhluso will be freeلَكُمۡ lakumfor youوَجۡهُ wajhu(the) faceأَبِيكُمۡ abikum(of) your fatherوَتَكُونُواْ watakunuand you will beمِنۢ minafter thatبَعۡدِهِۦ ba'dihiafter thatقَوۡمٗا qawmana peopleصَٰلِحِينَ salihinarighteous
TRANSLITERATION
uq'tulu yusufa awi it'rahuhu ardan yakhlu lakum wajhu abikum watakunu min ba'dihi qawman salihina
English - Sahih International
Kill Joseph or cast him out to [another] land; the countenance of your father will [then] be only for you, and you will be after that a righteous people."
Ayah 10 Play Ayah
قَالَ qalaSaidقَآئِلٞ qailuna speakerمِّنۡهُمۡ min'humamong themلَا la(Do) notتَقۡتُلُواْ taqtulukillيُوسُفَ yusufaYusufوَأَلۡقُوهُ wa-alquhubut throw himفِي fiinغَيَٰبَتِ ghayabatithe bottomٱلۡجُبِّ al-jubi(of) the wellيَلۡتَقِطۡهُ yaltaqit'huwill pick himبَعۡضُ ba'dusomeٱلسَّيَّارَةِ al-sayarati[the] caravanإِن inifكُنتُمۡ kuntumyou areفَٰعِلِينَ fa'ilinadoing
TRANSLITERATION
qala qailun min'hum la taqtulu yusufa wa-alquhu fi ghayabati al-jubi yaltaqit'hu ba'du al-sayarati in kuntum fa'ilina
English - Sahih International
Said a speaker among them, "Do not kill Joseph but throw him into the bottom of the well; some travelers will pick him up - if you would do [something]."
