Ayah 1 Play Ayah
سُورَةٌ suratunA Surahأَنزَلۡنَٰهَا anzalnahaWe (have) sent it downوَفَرَضۡنَٰهَا wafaradnahaand We (have) made it obligatoryوَأَنزَلۡنَا wa-anzalnaand We (have) revealedفِيهَآ fihathereinءَايَٰتِۭ ayatinVersesبَيِّنَٰتٖ bayyinatinclearلَّعَلَّكُمۡ la'allakumso that you mayتَذَكَّرُونَ tadhakkarunatake heedﰀ
TRANSLITERATION
suratun anzalnaha wafaradnaha wa-anzalna fiha ayatin bayyinatin la'allakum tadhakkaruna
English - Sahih International
[This is] a surah which We have sent down and made [that within it] obligatory and revealed therein verses of clear evidence that you might remember.
Ayah 2 Play Ayah
ٱلزَّانِيَةُ al-zaniyatuThe fornicatressوَٱلزَّانِي wal-zaniand the fornicatorفَٱجۡلِدُواْ fa-ij'lidu[then] flogكُلَّ kullaeachوَٰحِدٖ wahidinoneمِّنۡهُمَا min'humaof themمِاْئَةَ mi-ata(with) hundredجَلۡدَةٖۖ jaldatinlash(es)وَلَا walaAnd (let) notتَأۡخُذۡكُم takhudh'kumwithhold youبِهِمَا bihimapity for themرَأۡفَةٞ rafatunpity for themفِي ficoncerningدِينِ dini(the) religionٱللَّهِ al-lahiof Allahإِن inifكُنتُمۡ kuntumyouتُؤۡمِنُونَ tu'minunabelieveبِٱللَّهِ bil-lahiin Allahوَٱلۡيَوۡمِ wal-yawmiand the Dayٱلۡأٓخِرِۖ al-akhirithe Lastوَلۡيَشۡهَدۡ walyashhadAnd let witnessعَذَابَهُمَا adhabahumatheir punishmentطَآئِفَةٞ taifatuna groupمِّنَ minaofٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ al-mu'mininathe believersﰁ
TRANSLITERATION
al-zaniyatu wal-zani fa-ij'lidu kulla wahidin min'huma mi-ata jaldatin wala takhudh'kum bihima rafatun fi dini al-lahi in kuntum tu'minuna bil-lahi wal-yawmi al-akhiri walyashhad adhabahuma taifatun mina al-mu'minina
English - Sahih International
The [unmarried] woman or [unmarried] man found guilty of sexual intercourse - lash each one of them with a hundred lashes, and do not be taken by pity for them in the religion of Allah, if you should believe in Allah and the Last Day. And let a group of the believers witness their punishment.
Ayah 3 Play Ayah
ٱلزَّانِي al-zaniThe fornicatorلَا la(will) notيَنكِحُ yankihumarryإِلَّا illaexceptزَانِيَةً zaniyatana fornicatressأَوۡ aworمُشۡرِكَةٗ mush'rikatana polytheist womanوَٱلزَّانِيَةُ wal-zaniyatuand the fornicatressلَا la(will) notيَنكِحُهَآ yankihuhamarry herإِلَّا illaexceptزَانٍ zanina fornicatorأَوۡ aworمُشۡرِكٞۚ mush'rikuna polytheist manوَحُرِّمَ wahurrimaAnd is forbiddenذَٰلِكَ dhalikathatعَلَى alatoٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ al-mu'mininathe believersﰂ
TRANSLITERATION
al-zani la yankihu illa zaniyatan aw mush'rikatan wal-zaniyatu la yankihuha illa zanin aw mush'rikun wahurrima dhalika ala al-mu'minina
English - Sahih International
The fornicator does not marry except a [female] fornicator or polytheist, and none marries her except a fornicator or a polytheist, and that has been made unlawful to the believers.
Ayah 4 Play Ayah
وَٱلَّذِينَ wa-alladhinaAnd those whoيَرۡمُونَ yarmunaaccuseٱلۡمُحۡصَنَٰتِ al-muh'sanatithe chaste womenثُمَّ thummathenلَمۡ lamnotيَأۡتُواْ yatuthey bringبِأَرۡبَعَةِ bi-arba'atifourشُهَدَآءَ shuhadaawitnessesفَٱجۡلِدُوهُمۡ fa-ij'liduhumthen flog themثَمَٰنِينَ thamanina(with) eightyجَلۡدَةٗ jaldatanlashe(s)وَلَا walaand (do) notتَقۡبَلُواْ taqbaluacceptلَهُمۡ lahumtheirشَهَٰدَةً shahadatantestimonyأَبَدٗاۚ abadaneverوَأُوْلَـٰٓئِكَ wa-ulaikaAnd thoseهُمُ humutheyٱلۡفَٰسِقُونَ al-fasiquna(are) the defiantly disobedientﰃ
TRANSLITERATION
wa-alladhina yarmuna al-muh'sanati thumma lam yatu bi-arba'ati shuhadaa fa-ij'liduhum thamanina jaldatan wala taqbalu lahum shahadatan abadan wa-ulaika humu al-fasiquna
English - Sahih International
And those who accuse chaste women and then do not produce four witnesses - lash them with eighty lashes and do not accept from them testimony ever after. And those are the defiantly disobedient,
Ayah 5 Play Ayah
إِلَّا illaExceptٱلَّذِينَ alladhinathose whoتَابُواْ taburepentمِنۢ minafterبَعۡدِ ba'diafterذَٰلِكَ dhalikathatوَأَصۡلَحُواْ wa-aslahuand reformفَإِنَّ fa-innaThen indeedٱللَّهَ al-lahaAllahغَفُورٞ ghafurun(is) Oft-Forgivingرَّحِيمٞ rahimunMost Mercifulﰄ
TRANSLITERATION
illa alladhina tabu min ba'di dhalika wa-aslahu fa-inna al-laha ghafurun rahimun
English - Sahih International
Except for those who repent thereafter and reform, for indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.
Ayah 6 Play Ayah
وَٱلَّذِينَ wa-alladhinaAnd those whoيَرۡمُونَ yarmunaaccuseأَزۡوَٰجَهُمۡ azwajahumtheir spousesوَلَمۡ walamand notيَكُن yakunhaveلَّهُمۡ lahumfor themشُهَدَآءُ shuhadauwitnessesإِلَّآ illaexceptأَنفُسُهُمۡ anfusuhumthemselvesفَشَهَٰدَةُ fashahadatuthen (the) testimonyأَحَدِهِمۡ ahadihim(of) one of themأَرۡبَعُ arba'u(is) fourشَهَٰدَٰتِۭ shahadatintestimoniesبِٱللَّهِ bil-lahiby Allahإِنَّهُۥ innahuthat heلَمِنَ lamina(is) surely ofٱلصَّـٰدِقِينَ al-sadiqinathe truthfulﰅ
TRANSLITERATION
wa-alladhina yarmuna azwajahum walam yakun lahum shuhadau illa anfusuhum fashahadatu ahadihim arba'u shahadatin bil-lahi innahu lamina al-sadiqina
English - Sahih International
And those who accuse their wives [of adultery] and have no witnesses except themselves - then the witness of one of them [shall be] four testimonies [swearing] by Allah that indeed, he is of the truthful.
Ayah 7 Play Ayah
وَٱلۡخَٰمِسَةُ wal-khamisatuAnd the fifthأَنَّ annathatلَعۡنَتَ la'nata(the) curse of Allahٱللَّهِ al-lahi(the) curse of Allahعَلَيۡهِ alayhi(be) upon himإِن inifكَانَ kanahe isمِنَ minaofٱلۡكَٰذِبِينَ al-kadhibinathe liarsﰆ
TRANSLITERATION
wal-khamisatu anna la'nata al-lahi alayhi in kana mina al-kadhibina
English - Sahih International
And the fifth [oath will be] that the curse of Allah be upon him if he should be among the liars.
Ayah 8 Play Ayah
وَيَدۡرَؤُاْ wayadra-uBut it would preventعَنۡهَا anhafrom herٱلۡعَذَابَ al-'adhabathe punishmentأَن anthatتَشۡهَدَ tashhadashe bears witnessأَرۡبَعَ arba'afourشَهَٰدَٰتِۭ shahadatintestimoniesبِٱللَّهِ bil-lahiby Allahإِنَّهُۥ innahuthat heلَمِنَ lamina(is) surely ofٱلۡكَٰذِبِينَ al-kadhibinathe liarsﰇ
TRANSLITERATION
wayadra-u anha al-'adhaba an tashhada arba'a shahadatin bil-lahi innahu lamina al-kadhibina
English - Sahih International
But it will prevent punishment from her if she gives four testimonies [swearing] by Allah that indeed, he is of the liars.
Ayah 9 Play Ayah
وَٱلۡخَٰمِسَةَ wal-khamisataAnd the fifthأَنَّ annathatغَضَبَ ghadabathe wrath of Allahٱللَّهِ al-lahithe wrath of Allahعَلَيۡهَآ alayha(be) upon herإِن inifكَانَ kanahe isمِنَ minaofٱلصَّـٰدِقِينَ al-sadiqinathe truthfulﰈ
TRANSLITERATION
wal-khamisata anna ghadaba al-lahi alayha in kana mina al-sadiqina
English - Sahih International
And the fifth [oath will be] that the wrath of Allah be upon her if he was of the truthful.
Ayah 10 Play Ayah
وَلَوۡلَا walawlaAnd if notفَضۡلُ fadlu(for) the Grace of Allahٱللَّهِ al-lahi(for) the Grace of Allahعَلَيۡكُمۡ alaykumupon youوَرَحۡمَتُهُۥ warahmatuhuand His Mercyوَأَنَّ wa-annaand thatٱللَّهَ al-lahaAllahتَوَّابٌ tawwabun(is) Oft-Returning (to Mercy)حَكِيمٌ hakimunAll-Wiseﰉ
TRANSLITERATION
walawla fadlu al-lahi alaykum warahmatuhu wa-anna al-laha tawwabun hakimun
English - Sahih International
And if not for the favor of Allah upon you and His mercy... and because Allah is Accepting of repentance and Wise.
