Ayah 1 Play Ayah
لَآ laNay!أُقۡسِمُ uq'simuI swearبِيَوۡمِ biyawmiby (the) Dayٱلۡقِيَٰمَةِ al-qiyamati(of) the Resurrectionﰀ
TRANSLITERATION
la uq'simu biyawmi al-qiyamati
English - Sahih International
I swear by the Day of Resurrection
Ayah 2 Play Ayah
وَلَآ walaAnd nay!أُقۡسِمُ uq'simuI swearبِٱلنَّفۡسِ bil-nafsiby the soulٱللَّوَّامَةِ al-lawamatiself-accusingﰁ
TRANSLITERATION
wala uq'simu bil-nafsi al-lawamati
English - Sahih International
And I swear by the reproaching soul [to the certainty of resurrection].
Ayah 3 Play Ayah
أَيَحۡسَبُ ayahsabuDoes thinkٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ al-insanu[the] manأَلَّن allanthat notنَّجۡمَعَ najma'aWe will assembleعِظَامَهُۥ izamahuhis bonesﰂ
TRANSLITERATION
ayahsabu al-insanu allan najma'a izamahu
English - Sahih International
Does man think that We will not assemble his bones?
Ayah 4 Play Ayah
بَلَىٰ balaNay!قَٰدِرِينَ qadirina[We are] ableعَلَىٰٓ alaonأَن anthatنُّسَوِّيَ nusawwiyaWe can restoreبَنَانَهُۥ bananahuhis fingertipsﰃ
TRANSLITERATION
bala qadirina ala an nusawwiya bananahu
English - Sahih International
Yes. [We are] Able [even] to proportion his fingertips.
Ayah 5 Play Ayah
بَلۡ balNay!يُرِيدُ yuriduDesiresٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ al-insanu[the] manلِيَفۡجُرَ liyafjurato give (the) lieأَمَامَهُۥ amamahu(to) what is before himﰄ
TRANSLITERATION
bal yuridu al-insanu liyafjura amamahu
English - Sahih International
But man desires to continue in sin.
Ayah 6 Play Ayah
يَسۡـَٔلُ yasaluHe asksأَيَّانَ ayyanaWhenيَوۡمُ yawmu(is the) Dayٱلۡقِيَٰمَةِ al-qiyamati(of) the Resurrectionﰅ
TRANSLITERATION
yasalu ayyana yawmu al-qiyamati
English - Sahih International
He asks, "When is the Day of Resurrection?"
Ayah 7 Play Ayah
فَإِذَا fa-idhaSo whenبَرِقَ bariqais dazzledٱلۡبَصَرُ al-basaruthe visionﰆ
TRANSLITERATION
fa-idha bariqa al-basaru
English - Sahih International
So when vision is dazzled
Ayah 8 Play Ayah
وَخَسَفَ wakhasafaAnd becomes darkٱلۡقَمَرُ al-qamaruthe moonﰇ
TRANSLITERATION
wakhasafa al-qamaru
English - Sahih International
And the moon darkens
Ayah 9 Play Ayah
وَجُمِعَ wajumi'aAnd are joinedٱلشَّمۡسُ al-shamsuthe sunوَٱلۡقَمَرُ wal-qamaruand the moonﰈ
TRANSLITERATION
wajumi'a al-shamsu wal-qamaru
English - Sahih International
And the sun and the moon are joined,
Ayah 10 Play Ayah
يَقُولُ yaquluWill sayٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ al-insanu[the] manيَوۡمَئِذٍ yawma-idhinthat Dayأَيۡنَ aynaWhereٱلۡمَفَرُّ al-mafaru(is) the escapeﰉ
TRANSLITERATION
yaqulu al-insanu yawma-idhin ayna al-mafaru
English - Sahih International
Man will say on that Day, "Where is the [place of] escape?"
