Ayah 1 Play Ayah
ٱلۡحَمۡدُ al-hamdu(All) the praises and thanksلِلَّهِ lillahi(be) to Allahٱلَّذِي alladhithe One Whoخَلَقَ khalaqacreatedٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ al-samawatithe heavensوَٱلۡأَرۡضَ wal-ardaand the earthوَجَعَلَ waja'alaand madeٱلظُّلُمَٰتِ al-zulumatithe darkness[es]وَٱلنُّورَۖ wal-nuraand the lightثُمَّ thummaThenٱلَّذِينَ alladhinathose whoكَفَرُواْ kafarudisbelievedبِرَبِّهِمۡ birabbihimin their Lordيَعۡدِلُونَ ya'dilunaequate others with Him
TRANSLITERATION
al-hamdu lillahi alladhi khalaqa al-samawati wal-arda waja'ala al-zulumati wal-nura thumma alladhina kafaru birabbihim ya'diluna
English - Sahih International
[All] praise is [due] to Allah, who created the heavens and the earth and made the darkness and the light. Then those who disbelieve equate [others] with their Lord.
Ayah 2 Play Ayah
هُوَ huwaHeٱلَّذِي alladhi(is) the One Whoخَلَقَكُم khalaqakumcreated youمِّن minfromطِينٖ tininclayثُمَّ thummathenقَضَىٰٓ qadaHe decreedأَجَلٗاۖ ajalana termوَأَجَلٞ wa-ajalunand a termمُّسَمًّى musammanspecifiedعِندَهُۥۖ indahuwith Himثُمَّ thummayetأَنتُمۡ antumyouتَمۡتَرُونَ tamtarunadoubt
TRANSLITERATION
huwa alladhi khalaqakum min tinin thumma qada ajalan wa-ajalun musamman indahu thumma antum tamtaruna
English - Sahih International
It is He who created you from clay and then decreed a term and a specified time [known] to Him; then [still] you are in dispute.
Ayah 3 Play Ayah
وَهُوَ wahuwaAnd Heٱللَّهُ al-lahu(is) Allahفِي fiinٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ al-samawatithe heavensوَفِي wafiand inٱلۡأَرۡضِ al-ardithe earthيَعۡلَمُ ya'lamuHe knowsسِرَّكُمۡ sirrakumyour secretوَجَهۡرَكُمۡ wajahrakumand what you make publicوَيَعۡلَمُ waya'lamuand He knowsمَا mawhatتَكۡسِبُونَ taksibunayou earn
TRANSLITERATION
wahuwa al-lahu fi al-samawati wafi al-ardi ya'lamu sirrakum wajahrakum waya'lamu ma taksibuna
English - Sahih International
And He is Allah, [the only deity] in the heavens and the earth. He knows your secret and what you make public, and He knows that which you earn.
Ayah 4 Play Ayah
وَمَا wamaAnd notتَأۡتِيهِم tatihimcomes to themمِّنۡ min[of]ءَايَةٖ ayatinany signمِّنۡ minfromءَايَٰتِ ayati(the) Signsرَبِّهِمۡ rabbihim(of) their Lordإِلَّا illabutكَانُواْ kanuthey areعَنۡهَا anhafrom itمُعۡرِضِينَ mu'ridinaturning away
TRANSLITERATION
wama tatihim min ayatin min ayati rabbihim illa kanu anha mu'ridina
English - Sahih International
And no sign comes to them from the signs of their Lord except that they turn away therefrom.
Ayah 5 Play Ayah
فَقَدۡ faqadThen indeedكَذَّبُواْ kadhabuthey deniedبِٱلۡحَقِّ bil-haqithe truthلَمَّا lammawhenجَآءَهُمۡ jaahumit came to themفَسَوۡفَ fasawfabut soonيَأۡتِيهِمۡ yatihimwill come to themأَنۢبَـٰٓؤُاْ anbaunewsمَا ma(of) whatكَانُواْ kanuthey used toبِهِۦ bihi[at it]يَسۡتَهۡزِءُونَ yastahziunamock
TRANSLITERATION
faqad kadhabu bil-haqi lamma jaahum fasawfa yatihim anbau ma kanu bihi yastahziuna
English - Sahih International
For they had denied the truth when it came to them, but there is going to reach them the news of what they used to ridicule.
Ayah 6 Play Ayah
أَلَمۡ alamDid notيَرَوۡاْ yarawthey seeكَمۡ kamhow manyأَهۡلَكۡنَا ahlaknaWe destroyedمِن minfromقَبۡلِهِم qablihimbefore themمِّن minofقَرۡنٖ qarningenerationsمَّكَّنَّـٰهُمۡ makkannahumWe had established themفِي fiinٱلۡأَرۡضِ al-ardithe earthمَا mawhatلَمۡ lamnotنُمَكِّن numakkinWe (have) establishedلَّكُمۡ lakumfor youوَأَرۡسَلۡنَا wa-arsalnaAnd We sentٱلسَّمَآءَ al-samaa(rain from) the skyعَلَيۡهِم alayhimupon themمِّدۡرَارٗا mid'raranshowering abundantlyوَجَعَلۡنَا waja'alnaand We madeٱلۡأَنۡهَٰرَ al-anharathe riversتَجۡرِي tajriflowمِن minfromتَحۡتِهِمۡ tahtihimunderneath themفَأَهۡلَكۡنَٰهُم fa-ahlaknahumThen We destroyed themبِذُنُوبِهِمۡ bidhunubihimfor their sinsوَأَنشَأۡنَا wa-anshanaand We raisedمِنۢ minfromبَعۡدِهِمۡ ba'dihimafter themقَرۡنًا qarnangenerationsءَاخَرِينَ akharinaother
TRANSLITERATION
alam yaraw kam ahlakna min qablihim min qarnin makkannahum fi al-ardi ma lam numakkin lakum wa-arsalna al-samaa alayhim mid'raran waja'alna al-anhara tajri min tahtihim fa-ahlaknahum bidhunubihim wa-anshana min ba'dihim qarnan akharina
English - Sahih International
Have they not seen how many generations We destroyed before them which We had established upon the earth as We have not established you? And We sent [rain from] the sky upon them in showers and made rivers flow beneath them; then We destroyed them for their sins and brought forth after them a generation of others.
Ayah 7 Play Ayah
وَلَوۡ walawAnd (even) ifنَزَّلۡنَا nazzalnaWe (had) sent downعَلَيۡكَ alaykato youكِتَٰبٗا kitabana written Scriptureفِي fiinقِرۡطَاسٖ qir'tasina parchmentفَلَمَسُوهُ falamasuhuand they touched itبِأَيۡدِيهِمۡ bi-aydihimwith their handsلَقَالَ laqalasurely (would) have saidٱلَّذِينَ alladhinathose whoكَفَرُوٓاْ kafarudisbelievedإِنۡ inNotهَٰذَآ hadha(is) thisإِلَّا illabutسِحۡرٞ sih'runmagicمُّبِينٞ mubinunclear
TRANSLITERATION
walaw nazzalna alayka kitaban fi qir'tasin falamasuhu bi-aydihim laqala alladhina kafaru in hadha illa sih'run mubinun
English - Sahih International
And even if We had sent down to you, [O Muhammad], a written scripture on a page and they touched it with their hands, the disbelievers would say, "This is not but obvious magic."
Ayah 8 Play Ayah
وَقَالُواْ waqaluAnd they saidلَوۡلَآ lawlaWhy has not beenأُنزِلَ unzilasent downعَلَيۡهِ alayhito himمَلَكٞۖ malakunan Angelوَلَوۡ walawAnd ifأَنزَلۡنَا anzalnaWe (had) sent downمَلَكٗا malakanan Angelلَّقُضِيَ laqudiyasurely (would) have been decidedٱلۡأَمۡرُ al-amruthe matterثُمَّ thummathenلَا lanoيُنظَرُونَ yunzarunarespite would have been granted to them
TRANSLITERATION
waqalu lawla unzila alayhi malakun walaw anzalna malakan laqudiya al-amru thumma la yunzaruna
English - Sahih International
And they say, "Why was there not sent down to him an angel?" But if We had sent down an angel, the matter would have been decided; then they would not be reprieved.

Ayah 9 Play Ayah
وَلَوۡ walawAnd ifجَعَلۡنَٰهُ ja'alnahuWe had made himمَلَكٗا malakanan Angelلَّجَعَلۡنَٰهُ laja'alnahucertainly We (would) have made himرَجُلٗا rajulana manوَلَلَبَسۡنَا walalabasnaand certainly We (would) have obscuredعَلَيۡهِم alayhimto themمَّا mawhatيَلۡبِسُونَ yalbisunathey are obscuring
TRANSLITERATION
walaw ja'alnahu malakan laja'alnahu rajulan walalabasna alayhim ma yalbisuna
English - Sahih International
And if We had made him an angel, We would have made him [appear as] a man, and We would have covered them with that in which they cover themselves.
Ayah 10 Play Ayah
وَلَقَدِ walaqadiAnd indeedٱسۡتُهۡزِئَ us'tuh'zi-awere mockedبِرُسُلٖ birusulinMessengersمِّن minfromقَبۡلِكَ qablikabefore youفَحَاقَ fahaqabut surroundedبِٱلَّذِينَ bi-alladhinathose whoسَخِرُواْ sakhiruscoffedمِنۡهُم min'humof themمَّا mawhatكَانُواْ kanuthey used toبِهِۦ bihi[at it]يَسۡتَهۡزِءُونَ yastahziunamock
TRANSLITERATION
walaqadi us'tuh'zi-a birusulin min qablika fahaqa bi-alladhina sakhiru min'hum ma kanu bihi yastahziuna
English - Sahih International
And already were messengers ridiculed before you, but those who mocked them were enveloped by that which they used to ridicule.
