Ayah 1 Play Ayah
إِذَا idhaWhenجَآءَكَ jaakacome to youٱلۡمُنَٰفِقُونَ al-munafiqunathe hypocritesقَالُواْ qaluthey sayنَشۡهَدُ nashhaduWe testifyإِنَّكَ innakathat youلَرَسُولُ larasulu(are) surely (the) Messengerٱللَّهِۗ al-lahi(of) Allahوَٱللَّهُ wal-lahuAnd Allahيَعۡلَمُ ya'lamuknowsإِنَّكَ innakathat youلَرَسُولُهُۥ larasuluhu(are) surely His Messengerوَٱللَّهُ wal-lahuand Allahيَشۡهَدُ yashhadutestifiesإِنَّ innathatٱلۡمُنَٰفِقِينَ al-munafiqinathe hypocritesلَكَٰذِبُونَ lakadhibuna(are) surely liarsﰀ
TRANSLITERATION
idha jaaka al-munafiquna qalu nashhadu innaka larasulu al-lahi wal-lahu ya'lamu innaka larasuluhu wal-lahu yashhadu inna al-munafiqina lakadhibuna
English - Sahih International
When the hypocrites come to you, [O Muhammad], they say, "We testify that you are the Messenger of Allah." And Allah knows that you are His Messenger, and Allah testifies that the hypocrites are liars.
Ayah 2 Play Ayah
ٱتَّخَذُوٓاْ ittakhadhuThey takeأَيۡمَٰنَهُمۡ aymanahumtheir oathsجُنَّةٗ junnatan(as) a coverفَصَدُّواْ fasadduso they turn awayعَن anfromسَبِيلِ sabili(the) Wayٱللَّهِۚ al-lahi(of) Allahإِنَّهُمۡ innahumIndeedسَآءَ saaevil isمَا mawhatكَانُواْ kanuthey used (to)يَعۡمَلُونَ ya'malunadoﰁ
TRANSLITERATION
ittakhadhu aymanahum junnatan fasaddu an sabili al-lahi innahum saa ma kanu ya'maluna
English - Sahih International
They have taken their oaths as a cover, so they averted [people] from the way of Allah. Indeed, it was evil that they were doing.
Ayah 3 Play Ayah
ذَٰلِكَ dhalikaThatبِأَنَّهُمۡ bi-annahum(is) becauseءَامَنُواْ amanuthey believedثُمَّ thummathenكَفَرُواْ kafaruthey disbelieved;فَطُبِعَ fatubi'aso were sealedعَلَىٰ ala[upon]قُلُوبِهِمۡ qulubihimtheir heartsفَهُمۡ fahumso theyلَا la(do) notيَفۡقَهُونَ yafqahunaunderstandﰂ
TRANSLITERATION
dhalika bi-annahum amanu thumma kafaru fatubi'a ala qulubihim fahum la yafqahuna
English - Sahih International
That is because they believed, and then they disbelieved; so their hearts were sealed over, and they do not understand.
Ayah 4 Play Ayah
۞وَإِذَا wa-idhaAnd whenرَأَيۡتَهُمۡ ra-aytahumyou see themتُعۡجِبُكَ tu'jibukapleases youأَجۡسَامُهُمۡۖ ajsamuhumtheir bodiesوَإِن wa-inand ifيَقُولُواْ yaquluthey speakتَسۡمَعۡ tasma'you listenلِقَوۡلِهِمۡۖ liqawlihimto their speechكَأَنَّهُمۡ ka-annahumas if they (were)خُشُبٞ khushubunpieces of woodمُّسَنَّدَةٞۖ musannadatunpropped upيَحۡسَبُونَ yahsabunaThey thinkكُلَّ kullaeveryصَيۡحَةٍ sayhatinshoutعَلَيۡهِمۡۚ alayhim(is) against themهُمُ humuTheyٱلۡعَدُوُّ al-'aduwu(are) the enemyفَٱحۡذَرۡهُمۡۚ fa-ih'dharhumso beware of themقَٰتَلَهُمُ qatalahumuMay destroy themٱللَّهُۖ al-lahuAllahأَنَّىٰ annaHowيُؤۡفَكُونَ yu'fakunaare they deludedﰃ
TRANSLITERATION
wa-idha ra-aytahum tu'jibuka ajsamuhum wa-in yaqulu tasma' liqawlihim ka-annahum khushubun musannadatun yahsabuna kulla sayhatin alayhim humu al-'aduwu fa-ih'dharhum qatalahumu al-lahu anna yu'fakuna
English - Sahih International
And when you see them, their forms please you, and if they speak, you listen to their speech. [They are] as if they were pieces of wood propped up - they think that every shout is against them. They are the enemy, so beware of them. May Allah destroy them; how are they deluded?

Ayah 5 Play Ayah
وَإِذَا wa-idhaAnd whenقِيلَ qilait is saidلَهُمۡ lahumto themتَعَالَوۡاْ ta'alawComeيَسۡتَغۡفِرۡ yastaghfirwill ask forgivenessلَكُمۡ lakumfor youرَسُولُ rasulu(the) Messengerٱللَّهِ al-lahi(of) Allahلَوَّوۡاْ lawwawThey turn asideرُءُوسَهُمۡ ruusahumtheir headsوَرَأَيۡتَهُمۡ wara-aytahumand you see themيَصُدُّونَ yasuddunaturning awayوَهُم wahumwhile theyمُّسۡتَكۡبِرُونَ mus'takbiruna(are) arrogantﰄ
TRANSLITERATION
wa-idha qila lahum ta'alaw yastaghfir lakum rasulu al-lahi lawwaw ruusahum wara-aytahum yasudduna wahum mus'takbiruna
English - Sahih International
And when it is said to them, "Come, the Messenger of Allah will ask forgiveness for you," they turn their heads aside and you see them evading while they are arrogant.
Ayah 6 Play Ayah
سَوَآءٌ sawaon(It) is sameعَلَيۡهِمۡ alayhimfor themأَسۡتَغۡفَرۡتَ astaghfartawhether you ask forgivenessلَهُمۡ lahumfor themأَمۡ amorلَمۡ lam(do) notتَسۡتَغۡفِرۡ tastaghfirask forgivenessلَهُمۡ lahumfor themلَن lanNeverيَغۡفِرَ yaghfirawill forgiveٱللَّهُ al-lahuAllahلَهُمۡۚ lahum[to] themإِنَّ innaIndeedٱللَّهَ al-lahaAllahلَا la(does) notيَهۡدِي yahdiguideٱلۡقَوۡمَ al-qawmathe peopleٱلۡفَٰسِقِينَ al-fasiqinathe defiantly disobedientﰅ
TRANSLITERATION
sawaon alayhim astaghfarta lahum am lam tastaghfir lahum lan yaghfira al-lahu lahum inna al-laha la yahdi al-qawma al-fasiqina
English - Sahih International
It is all the same for them whether you ask forgiveness for them or do not ask forgiveness for them; never will Allah forgive them. Indeed, Allah does not guide the defiantly disobedient people.
Ayah 7 Play Ayah
هُمُ humuTheyٱلَّذِينَ alladhina(are) those whoيَقُولُونَ yaqulunasayلَا la(Do) notتُنفِقُواْ tunfiquspendعَلَىٰ alaonمَنۡ man(those) whoعِندَ inda(are) withرَسُولِ rasuli(the) Messengerٱللَّهِ al-lahi(of) Allahحَتَّىٰ hattauntilيَنفَضُّواْۗ yanfadduthey disbandوَلِلَّهِ walillahiAnd for Allahخَزَآئِنُ khazainu(are the) treasuresٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ al-samawati(of) the heavensوَٱلۡأَرۡضِ wal-ardiand the earthوَلَٰكِنَّ walakinnabutٱلۡمُنَٰفِقِينَ al-munafiqinathe hypocritesلَا la(do) notيَفۡقَهُونَ yafqahunaunderstandﰆ
TRANSLITERATION
humu alladhina yaquluna la tunfiqu ala man inda rasuli al-lahi hatta yanfaddu walillahi khazainu al-samawati wal-ardi walakinna al-munafiqina la yafqahuna
English - Sahih International
They are the ones who say, "Do not spend on those who are with the Messenger of Allah until they disband." And to Allah belongs the depositories of the heavens and the earth, but the hypocrites do not understand.
Ayah 8 Play Ayah
يَقُولُونَ yaqulunaThey sayلَئِن la-inIfرَّجَعۡنَآ raja'nawe returnإِلَى ilatoٱلۡمَدِينَةِ al-madinatiAl-Madinahلَيُخۡرِجَنَّ layukh'rijannasurely will expelٱلۡأَعَزُّ al-a'azuthe more honorableمِنۡهَا min'hafrom itٱلۡأَذَلَّۚ al-adhalathe more humbleوَلِلَّهِ walillahiBut for Allahٱلۡعِزَّةُ al-'izatu(is) the honorوَلِرَسُولِهِۦ walirasulihiand for His Messengerوَلِلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ walil'mu'mininaand for the believersوَلَٰكِنَّ walakinnabutٱلۡمُنَٰفِقِينَ al-munafiqinathe hypocritesلَا la(do) notيَعۡلَمُونَ ya'lamunaknowﰇ
TRANSLITERATION
yaquluna la-in raja'na ila al-madinati layukh'rijanna al-a'azu min'ha al-adhala walillahi al-'izatu walirasulihi walil'mu'minina walakinna al-munafiqina la ya'lamuna
English - Sahih International
They say, "If we return to al-Madinah, the more honored [for power] will surely expel therefrom the more humble." And to Allah belongs [all] honor, and to His Messenger, and to the believers, but the hypocrites do not know.
Ayah 9 Play Ayah
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا yaayyuhaOٱلَّذِينَ alladhinayou (who)ءَامَنُواْ amanubelieveلَا la(Let) notتُلۡهِكُمۡ tul'hikumdivert youأَمۡوَٰلُكُمۡ amwalukumyour wealthوَلَآ walaand notأَوۡلَٰدُكُمۡ awladukumyour childrenعَن anfromذِكۡرِ dhik'ri(the) remembranceٱللَّهِۚ al-lahi(of) Allahوَمَن wamanAnd whoeverيَفۡعَلۡ yaf 'aldoesذَٰلِكَ dhalikathatفَأُوْلَـٰٓئِكَ fa-ulaikathen thoseهُمُ humu[they]ٱلۡخَٰسِرُونَ al-khasiruna(are) the losersﰈ
TRANSLITERATION
yaayyuha alladhina amanu la tul'hikum amwalukum wala awladukum an dhik'ri al-lahi waman yaf 'al dhalika fa-ulaika humu al-khasiruna
English - Sahih International
O you who have believed, let not your wealth and your children divert you from remembrance of Allah. And whoever does that - then those are the losers.
Ayah 10 Play Ayah
وَأَنفِقُواْ wa-anfiquAnd spendمِن minfromمَّا mawhatرَزَقۡنَٰكُم razaqnakumWe have provided youمِّن minfromقَبۡلِ qablibeforeأَن an[that]يَأۡتِيَ yatiyacomesأَحَدَكُمُ ahadakumu(to) one of youٱلۡمَوۡتُ al-mawtuthe deathفَيَقُولَ fayaqulaand he saysرَبِّ rabbiMy Lordلَوۡلَآ lawlaWhy notأَخَّرۡتَنِيٓ akhartaniYou delay meإِلَىٰٓ ilaforأَجَلٖ ajalina termقَرِيبٖ qaribinnearفَأَصَّدَّقَ fa-assaddaqaso I would give charityوَأَكُن wa-akunand beمِّنَ minaamongٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَ al-salihinathe righteousﰉ
TRANSLITERATION
wa-anfiqu min ma razaqnakum min qabli an yatiya ahadakumu al-mawtu fayaqula rabbi lawla akhartani ila ajalin qaribin fa-assaddaqa wa-akun mina al-salihina
English - Sahih International
And spend [in the way of Allah] from what We have provided you before death approaches one of you and he says, "My Lord, if only You would delay me for a brief term so I would give charity and be among the righteous."
