Ayah 1 Play Ayah
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا yaayyuhaOٱلنَّبِيُّ al-nabiyuProphetلِمَ limaWhy (do)تُحَرِّمُ tuharrimuyou prohibitمَآ mawhatأَحَلَّ ahallahas made lawfulٱللَّهُ al-lahuAllahلَكَۖ lakafor youتَبۡتَغِي tabtaghiseekingمَرۡضَاتَ mardata(to) pleaseأَزۡوَٰجِكَۚ azwajikayour wivesوَٱللَّهُ wal-lahuAnd Allahغَفُورٞ ghafurun(is) Oft-Forgivingرَّحِيمٞ rahimunMost Merciful
TRANSLITERATION
yaayyuha al-nabiyu lima tuharrimu ma ahalla al-lahu laka tabtaghi mardata azwajika wal-lahu ghafurun rahimun
English - Sahih International
O Prophet, why do you prohibit [yourself from] what Allah has made lawful for you, seeking the approval of your wives? And Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.
Ayah 2 Play Ayah
قَدۡ qadIndeedفَرَضَ faradahas ordainedٱللَّهُ al-lahuAllahلَكُمۡ lakumfor youتَحِلَّةَ tahillata(the) dissolutionأَيۡمَٰنِكُمۡۚ aymanikum(of) your oathsوَٱللَّهُ wal-lahuAnd Allahمَوۡلَىٰكُمۡۖ mawlakum(is) your Protectorوَهُوَ wahuwaand Heٱلۡعَلِيمُ al-'alimu(is) the All-Knowerٱلۡحَكِيمُ al-hakimuthe All-Wise
TRANSLITERATION
qad farada al-lahu lakum tahillata aymanikum wal-lahu mawlakum wahuwa al-'alimu al-hakimu
English - Sahih International
Allah has already ordained for you [Muslims] the dissolution of your oaths. And Allah is your protector, and He is the Knowing, the Wise.
Ayah 3 Play Ayah
وَإِذۡ wa-idhAnd whenأَسَرَّ asarraconfidedٱلنَّبِيُّ al-nabiyuthe Prophetإِلَىٰ ilatoبَعۡضِ ba'dioneأَزۡوَٰجِهِۦ azwajihi(of) his wivesحَدِيثٗا hadithana statementفَلَمَّا falammaand whenنَبَّأَتۡ nabba-atshe informedبِهِۦ bihiabout itوَأَظۡهَرَهُ wa-azharahuand made it apparentٱللَّهُ al-lahuAllahعَلَيۡهِ alayhito himعَرَّفَ arrafahe made knownبَعۡضَهُۥ ba'dahua part of itوَأَعۡرَضَ wa-a'radaand avoidedعَنۢ an[of]بَعۡضٖۖ ba'dina partفَلَمَّا falammaThen whenنَبَّأَهَا nabba-ahahe informed herبِهِۦ bihiabout itقَالَتۡ qalatshe saidمَنۡ manWhoأَنۢبَأَكَ anba-akainformed youهَٰذَاۖ hadhathisقَالَ qalaHe saidنَبَّأَنِيَ nabba-aniyaHas informed meٱلۡعَلِيمُ al-'alimuthe All-Knowerٱلۡخَبِيرُ al-khabiruthe All-Aware
TRANSLITERATION
wa-idh asarra al-nabiyu ila ba'di azwajihi hadithan falamma nabba-at bihi wa-azharahu al-lahu alayhi arrafa ba'dahu wa-a'rada an ba'din falamma nabba-aha bihi qalat man anba-aka hadha qala nabba-aniya al-'alimu al-khabiru
English - Sahih International
And [remember] when the Prophet confided to one of his wives a statement; and when she informed [another] of it and Allah showed it to him, he made known part of it and ignored a part. And when he informed her about it, she said, "Who told you this?" He said, "I was informed by the Knowing, the Acquainted."
Ayah 4 Play Ayah
إِن inIfتَتُوبَآ tatubayou both turnإِلَى ilatoٱللَّهِ al-lahiAllahفَقَدۡ faqadso indeedصَغَتۡ saghat(are) inclinedقُلُوبُكُمَاۖ qulubukumayour hearts;وَإِن wa-inbut ifتَظَٰهَرَا tazaharayou backup each otherعَلَيۡهِ alayhiagainst himفَإِنَّ fa-innathen indeedٱللَّهَ al-lahaAllahهُوَ huwaHeمَوۡلَىٰهُ mawlahu(is) his Protectorوَجِبۡرِيلُ wajib'riluand Jibreelوَصَٰلِحُ wasalihuand (the) righteousٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَۖ al-mu'mininabelieversوَٱلۡمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ wal-malaikatuand the Angelsبَعۡدَ ba'daafterذَٰلِكَ dhalikathatظَهِيرٌ zahirun(are his) assistants
TRANSLITERATION
in tatuba ila al-lahi faqad saghat qulubukuma wa-in tazahara alayhi fa-inna al-laha huwa mawlahu wajib'rilu wasalihu al-mu'minina wal-malaikatu ba'da dhalika zahirun
English - Sahih International
If you two [wives] repent to Allah, [it is best], for your hearts have deviated. But if you cooperate against him - then indeed Allah is his protector, and Gabriel and the righteous of the believers and the angels, moreover, are [his] assistants.
Ayah 5 Play Ayah
عَسَىٰ asaPerhapsرَبُّهُۥٓ rabbuhuhis Lordإِن inifطَلَّقَكُنَّ tallaqakunnahe divorced youأَن an[that]يُبۡدِلَهُۥٓ yub'dilahuHe will substitute for himأَزۡوَٰجًا azwajanwivesخَيۡرٗا khayranbetterمِّنكُنَّ minkunnathan youمُسۡلِمَٰتٖ mus'limatinsubmissiveمُّؤۡمِنَٰتٖ mu'minatinfaithfulقَٰنِتَٰتٖ qanitatinobedientتَـٰٓئِبَٰتٍ taibatinrepentantعَٰبِدَٰتٖ abidatinwho worshipسَـٰٓئِحَٰتٖ saihatinwho fastثَيِّبَٰتٖ thayyibatinpreviously marriedوَأَبۡكَارٗا wa-abkaranand virgins
TRANSLITERATION
asa rabbuhu in tallaqakunna an yub'dilahu azwajan khayran minkunna mus'limatin mu'minatin qanitatin taibatin abidatin saihatin thayyibatin wa-abkaran
English - Sahih International
Perhaps his Lord, if he divorced you [all], would substitute for him wives better than you - submitting [to Allah], believing, devoutly obedient, repentant, worshipping, and traveling - [ones] previously married and virgins.
Ayah 6 Play Ayah
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا yaayyuhaOٱلَّذِينَ alladhina(you) whoءَامَنُواْ amanubelieveقُوٓاْ quProtectأَنفُسَكُمۡ anfusakumyourselvesوَأَهۡلِيكُمۡ wa-ahlikumand your familiesنَارٗا naran(from) a Fireوَقُودُهَا waquduhawhose fuelٱلنَّاسُ al-nasu(is) peopleوَٱلۡحِجَارَةُ wal-hijaratuand stonesعَلَيۡهَا alayhaover itمَلَـٰٓئِكَةٌ malaikatun(are) Angelsغِلَاظٞ ghilazunsternشِدَادٞ shidadunsevereلَّا lanotيَعۡصُونَ ya'sunathey disobeyٱللَّهَ al-lahaAllahمَآ ma(in) whatأَمَرَهُمۡ amarahumHe Commands themوَيَفۡعَلُونَ wayaf 'alunabut they doمَا mawhatيُؤۡمَرُونَ yu'marunathey are commanded
TRANSLITERATION
yaayyuha alladhina amanu qu anfusakum wa-ahlikum naran waquduha al-nasu wal-hijaratu alayha malaikatun ghilazun shidadun la ya'suna al-laha ma amarahum wayaf 'aluna ma yu'maruna
English - Sahih International
O you who have believed, protect yourselves and your families from a Fire whose fuel is people and stones, over which are [appointed] angels, harsh and severe; they do not disobey Allah in what He commands them but do what they are commanded.
Ayah 7 Play Ayah
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا yaayyuhaOٱلَّذِينَ alladhina(you) whoكَفَرُواْ kafarudisbelieveلَا la(Do) notتَعۡتَذِرُواْ ta'tadhirumake excusesٱلۡيَوۡمَۖ al-yawmatodayإِنَّمَا innamaOnlyتُجۡزَوۡنَ tuj'zawnayou will be recompensedمَا ma(for) whatكُنتُمۡ kuntumyou used (to)تَعۡمَلُونَ ta'malunado
TRANSLITERATION
yaayyuha alladhina kafaru la ta'tadhiru al-yawma innama tuj'zawna ma kuntum ta'maluna
English - Sahih International
O you who have disbelieved, make no excuses that Day. You will only be recompensed for what you used to do.

Ayah 8 Play Ayah
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا yaayyuhaOٱلَّذِينَ alladhina(you) who believeءَامَنُواْ amanubelieveتُوبُوٓاْ tubuTurnإِلَى ilatoٱللَّهِ al-lahiAllahتَوۡبَةٗ tawbatan(in) repentanceنَّصُوحًا nasuhansincereعَسَىٰ asaPerhapsرَبُّكُمۡ rabbukumyour Lordأَن an[that]يُكَفِّرَ yukaffirawill removeعَنكُمۡ ankumfrom youسَيِّـَٔاتِكُمۡ sayyiatikumyour misdeedsوَيُدۡخِلَكُمۡ wayud'khilakumand admit youجَنَّـٰتٖ jannatin(into) Gardensتَجۡرِي tajriflowمِن minfromتَحۡتِهَا tahtihaunderneath itٱلۡأَنۡهَٰرُ al-anharuthe riversيَوۡمَ yawma(on the) Dayلَا lanotيُخۡزِي yukh'ziwill be disgracedٱللَّهُ al-lahu(by) Allahٱلنَّبِيَّ al-nabiyathe Prophetوَٱلَّذِينَ wa-alladhinaand those whoءَامَنُواْ amanubelievedمَعَهُۥۖ ma'ahuwith himنُورُهُمۡ nuruhumTheir lightيَسۡعَىٰ yas'awill runبَيۡنَ baynabeforeأَيۡدِيهِمۡ aydihimtheir handsوَبِأَيۡمَٰنِهِمۡ wabi-aymanihimand on their rightيَقُولُونَ yaqulunathey will sayرَبَّنَآ rabbanaOur Lordأَتۡمِمۡ atmimPerfectلَنَا lanafor usنُورَنَا nuranaour lightوَٱغۡفِرۡ wa-igh'firand grant forgivenessلَنَآۖ lanato usإِنَّكَ innakaIndeed, Youعَلَىٰ ala(are) overكُلِّ kullieveryشَيۡءٖ shayinthingقَدِيرٞ qadirunAll-Powerful
TRANSLITERATION
yaayyuha alladhina amanu tubu ila al-lahi tawbatan nasuhan asa rabbukum an yukaffira ankum sayyiatikum wayud'khilakum jannatin tajri min tahtiha al-anharu yawma la yukh'zi al-lahu al-nabiya wa-alladhina amanu ma'ahu nuruhum yas'a bayna aydihim wabi-aymanihim yaquluna rabbana atmim lana nurana wa-igh'fir lana innaka ala kulli shayin qadirun
English - Sahih International
O you who have believed, repent to Allah with sincere repentance. Perhaps your Lord will remove from you your misdeeds and admit you into gardens beneath which rivers flow [on] the Day when Allah will not disgrace the Prophet and those who believed with him. Their light will proceed before them and on their right; they will say, "Our Lord, perfect for us our light and forgive us. Indeed, You are over all things competent."
Ayah 9 Play Ayah
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا yaayyuhaOٱلنَّبِيُّ al-nabiyuProphetجَٰهِدِ jahidiStriveٱلۡكُفَّارَ al-kufara(against) the disbelieversوَٱلۡمُنَٰفِقِينَ wal-munafiqinaand the hypocritesوَٱغۡلُظۡ wa-ugh'luzand be sternعَلَيۡهِمۡۚ alayhimwith themوَمَأۡوَىٰهُمۡ wamawahumAnd their abodeجَهَنَّمُۖ jahannamu(is) Hellوَبِئۡسَ wabi'saand wretched isٱلۡمَصِيرُ al-masiruthe destination
TRANSLITERATION
yaayyuha al-nabiyu jahidi al-kufara wal-munafiqina wa-ugh'luz alayhim wamawahum jahannamu wabi'sa al-masiru
English - Sahih International
O Prophet, strive against the disbelievers and the hypocrites and be harsh upon them. And their refuge is Hell, and wretched is the destination.
Ayah 10 Play Ayah
ضَرَبَ darabaPresentsٱللَّهُ al-lahuAllahمَثَلٗا mathalanan exampleلِّلَّذِينَ lilladhinafor those whoكَفَرُواْ kafarudisbelievedٱمۡرَأَتَ im'ra-ata(the) wifeنُوحٖ nuhin(of) Nuhوَٱمۡرَأَتَ wa-im'ra-ata(and the) wifeلُوطٖۖ lutin(of) Lutكَانَتَا kanataThey wereتَحۡتَ tahtaunderعَبۡدَيۡنِ abdaynitwo [slaves]مِنۡ minofعِبَادِنَا ibadinaOur slavesصَٰلِحَيۡنِ salihaynirighteousفَخَانَتَاهُمَا fakhanatahumabut they both betrayed themفَلَمۡ falamso notيُغۡنِيَا yugh'niyathey availedعَنۡهُمَا anhumaboth of themمِنَ minafromٱللَّهِ al-lahiAllahشَيۡـٔٗا shayan(in) anythingوَقِيلَ waqilaand it was saidٱدۡخُلَا ud'khulaEnterٱلنَّارَ al-narathe Fireمَعَ ma'awithٱلدَّـٰخِلِينَ al-dakhilinathose who enter
TRANSLITERATION
daraba al-lahu mathalan lilladhina kafaru im'ra-ata nuhin wa-im'ra-ata lutin kanata tahta abdayni min ibadina salihayni fakhanatahuma falam yugh'niya anhuma mina al-lahi shayan waqila ud'khula al-nara ma'a al-dakhilina
English - Sahih International
Allah presents an example of those who disbelieved: the wife of Noah and the wife of Lot. They were under two of Our righteous servants but betrayed them, so those prophets did not avail them from Allah at all, and it was said, "Enter the Fire with those who enter."
