Ayah 1 Play Ayah
قُلۡ qulSayأُوحِيَ uhiyaIt has been revealedإِلَيَّ ilayyato meأَنَّهُ annahuthatٱسۡتَمَعَ is'tama'alistenedنَفَرٞ nafaruna groupمِّنَ minaofٱلۡجِنِّ al-jinithe jinnفَقَالُوٓاْ faqaluand they saidإِنَّا innaIndeed weسَمِعۡنَا sami'naheardقُرۡءَانًا qur'anana Quranعَجَبٗا ajabanamazingﰀ
TRANSLITERATION
qul uhiya ilayya annahu is'tama'a nafarun mina al-jini faqalu inna sami'na qur'anan ajaban
English - Sahih International
Say, [O Muhammad], "It has been revealed to me that a group of the jinn listened and said, 'Indeed, we have heard an amazing Qur'an.
Ayah 2 Play Ayah
يَهۡدِيٓ yahdiIt guidesإِلَى ilatoٱلرُّشۡدِ al-rush'dithe right wayفَـَٔامَنَّا faamannaso we believeبِهِۦۖ bihiin itوَلَن walanand neverنُّشۡرِكَ nush'rikawe will associateبِرَبِّنَآ birabbinawith our Lordأَحَدٗا ahadananyoneﰁ
TRANSLITERATION
yahdi ila al-rush'di faamanna bihi walan nush'rika birabbina ahadan
English - Sahih International
It guides to the right course, and we have believed in it. And we will never associate with our Lord anyone.
Ayah 3 Play Ayah
وَأَنَّهُۥ wa-annahuAnd that Heتَعَٰلَىٰ ta'alaExalted isجَدُّ jaddu(the) Majestyرَبِّنَا rabbina(of) our Lordمَا manotٱتَّخَذَ ittakhadhaHe has takenصَٰحِبَةٗ sahibatana wifeوَلَا walaand notوَلَدٗا waladana sonﰂ
TRANSLITERATION
wa-annahu ta'ala jaddu rabbina ma ittakhadha sahibatan wala waladan
English - Sahih International
And [it teaches] that exalted is the nobleness of our Lord; He has not taken a wife or a son
Ayah 4 Play Ayah
وَأَنَّهُۥ wa-annahuAnd that heكَانَ kanausedيَقُولُ yaqulu(to) speakسَفِيهُنَا safihunathe foolish among usعَلَى alaagainstٱللَّهِ al-lahiAllahشَطَطٗا shatatanan excessive transgressionﰃ
TRANSLITERATION
wa-annahu kana yaqulu safihuna ala al-lahi shatatan
English - Sahih International
And that our foolish one has been saying about Allah an excessive transgression.
Ayah 5 Play Ayah
وَأَنَّا wa-annaAnd that weظَنَنَّآ zanannathoughtأَن anthatلَّن lanneverتَقُولَ taqulawill sayٱلۡإِنسُ al-insuthe menوَٱلۡجِنُّ wal-jinuand the jinnعَلَى alaagainstٱللَّهِ al-lahiAllahكَذِبٗا kadhibanany lieﰄ
TRANSLITERATION
wa-anna zananna an lan taqula al-insu wal-jinu ala al-lahi kadhiban
English - Sahih International
And we had thought that mankind and the jinn would never speak about Allah a lie.
Ayah 6 Play Ayah
وَأَنَّهُۥ wa-annahuAnd thatكَانَ kana(there) wereرِجَالٞ rijalunmenمِّنَ minaamongٱلۡإِنسِ al-insimankindيَعُوذُونَ ya'udhunawho sought refugeبِرِجَالٖ birijalinin (the) menمِّنَ minafromٱلۡجِنِّ al-jinithe jinnفَزَادُوهُمۡ fazaduhumso they increased themرَهَقٗا rahaqan(in) burdenﰅ
TRANSLITERATION
wa-annahu kana rijalun mina al-insi ya'udhuna birijalin mina al-jini fazaduhum rahaqan
English - Sahih International
And there were men from mankind who sought refuge in men from the jinn, so they [only] increased them in burden.
Ayah 7 Play Ayah
وَأَنَّهُمۡ wa-annahumAnd that theyظَنُّواْ zannuthoughtكَمَا kamaasظَنَنتُمۡ zanantumyou thoughtأَن anthatلَّن lanneverيَبۡعَثَ yab'athawill raiseٱللَّهُ al-lahuAllahأَحَدٗا ahadananyoneﰆ
TRANSLITERATION
wa-annahum zannu kama zanantum an lan yab'atha al-lahu ahadan
English - Sahih International
And they had thought, as you thought, that Allah would never send anyone [as a messenger].
Ayah 8 Play Ayah
وَأَنَّا wa-annaAnd that weلَمَسۡنَا lamasnasought to touchٱلسَّمَآءَ al-samaathe heavenفَوَجَدۡنَٰهَا fawajadnahabut we found itمُلِئَتۡ muli-atfilled (with)حَرَسٗا harasanguardsشَدِيدٗا shadidansevereوَشُهُبٗا washuhubanand flaming firesﰇ
TRANSLITERATION
wa-anna lamasna al-samaa fawajadnaha muli-at harasan shadidan washuhuban
English - Sahih International
And we have sought [to reach] the heaven but found it filled with powerful guards and burning flames.
Ayah 9 Play Ayah
وَأَنَّا wa-annaAnd that weكُنَّا kunnaused (to)نَقۡعُدُ naq'udusitمِنۡهَا min'hathere inمَقَٰعِدَ maqa'idapositionsلِلسَّمۡعِۖ lilssam'ifor hearingفَمَن famanbut (he) whoيَسۡتَمِعِ yastami'ilistensٱلۡأٓنَ al-ananowيَجِدۡ yajidwill findلَهُۥ lahufor himشِهَابٗا shihabana flaming fireرَّصَدٗا rasadanwaitingﰈ
TRANSLITERATION
wa-anna kunna naq'udu min'ha maqa'ida lilssam'i faman yastami'i al-ana yajid lahu shihaban rasadan
English - Sahih International
And we used to sit therein in positions for hearing, but whoever listens now will find a burning flame lying in wait for him.
Ayah 10 Play Ayah
وَأَنَّا wa-annaAnd that weلَا lanotنَدۡرِيٓ nadriwe knowأَشَرٌّ asharrunwhether evilأُرِيدَ uridais intendedبِمَن bimanfor (those) whoفِي fi(are) inٱلۡأَرۡضِ al-ardithe earthأَمۡ amorأَرَادَ aradaintendsبِهِمۡ bihimfor themرَبُّهُمۡ rabbuhumtheir Lordرَشَدٗا rashadana right pathﰉ
TRANSLITERATION
wa-anna la nadri asharrun urida biman fi al-ardi am arada bihim rabbuhum rashadan
English - Sahih International
And we do not know [therefore] whether evil is intended for those on earth or whether their Lord intends for them a right course.
